Pulling That Thread

The whole “Amsterdam is a bicycling paradise” meme is beginning to unravel. Check out John S. Allen’s blog to see two videos making the rounds on blogs and Facebook.

And be watching for my full-length documentary entitled “I’d Rather Ride in Springfield” to be published here soon.

I’d rather ride in Amsterdam right now. 105F down here in Texas. Traffic I can deal with!

Hot here, too. Was never above 60 in Amsterdam two weeks ago.

Hasn’t gotten above 80 here in Central Florida for several days. Feels like Seattle. And I’m not complaining.

I’m outside of Seattle and it’s dreadful. It’s the 25th of June and I’ve got a space heater running.

    Amsterdam looks crazy.

Mid nineties here last week and this week, which is unheard of in bombtown. We cancelled our vacation plans for next week–everywhere we planned on going in Colorado is on fire. The new B&B we planned on staying in is currently being used as emergency housing for fire refugees.

    Climate worries? Nah…

Dutch people are not saints. What a surprise! Particularly in The Big City. The Amsterdam urban area has a population of about 7 million.

Springfield’s population is closer to that of Groningen, which is also a university town. Groningen has such an extensive car-free central zone that it is possible to live, work and play entirely in the car-free zone.
