EFTAD: Stuff… Sooo Much Stuff

OK, so I’m having to use the EFTAD acronym for my Escape From The American Dream blog series because it’s just too many words for the column width. And I dislike blog heads running two decks. So, well, yeah … EFTAD.

Now that we’ve settled that, let’s briefly discuss something far from settled: what are we going to do with all of our stuff?

Our loft is about 1,000 square feet. Our current home is something close to 2,400 square feet — plus a detached garage that’s full of stuff.

So I’m thinking a series of massive garage sales is in our future. This weekend I’ll begin the process by throwing away obvious junk 🙂

Luckily, I won’t have to get rid of any bicycles because we rented two parking spaces in the garage at 211 S. Market St.

I downsized from an 1800sf house in the burbs to a 900sf condo near downtown. It’s a good lesson in letting go of stuff… and realizing how much stuff you don’t really care about, it’s just there filling space.

Keri… Yep. It’s pretty amazing how much stuff we accumulate. I’m getting rid of stuff in shifts. Cull and keep the stuff I really want. Then later cull again and discover some things don’t survive the second cut. Or the third. And so on…

We went from a 960 sq foot townhouse to a 1260 sq. foot duplex in Honolulu to a 2300 sq foot house in Bomb Town. Now starting to calculate reversing the process. The law of entropy sez that the more room you have, the more junk you will find to fill it.

We’re going from 3700 sqft to 1800. It is worse than it sounds since we also got furniture along WITH the new house and it is 1600 miles away.
