Happy Sunday!
Here are all the things you may have missed this week:
- “Witness at Tornillo” wins best documentary film at the Kanas City Film Fest!!!! We want to give a big thank you to everyone who helped with the film, but especially Director Shane Franklin and Director of Photography Taye Taye. They and many others have worked tirelessly on this project. A round of applause and a round of drinks are certainly deserved.
- Watch this video about the Heroes at the Border. In January, before everything was on lockdown, our team traveled to Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Tamaulipas, to start filming the sequel to Witness At Tornillo. It was a profound experience for our team to film the dire human rights abuses caused in large part by the federal protocol known as MPP, or Remain in Mexico. It was not all woe, though. We had the immeasurable satisfaction of documenting and interviewing some genuinely heroic people. We want to thank the following organizations for appearing in our film and for the miraculous work they perform every day.
- Have you seen this fantastic video published by 417 Magazine this week? If not, it is worth every second of your time to see this beautiful place. #417strong video creators say they have been inspired by locals who have come up with creative ways to connect, support local businesses, and save lives.
- Songs From the Street has a new teaser out this week. The Street Choir has had a profound effect on the people who’ve joined the choir’s ranks. Witness their stories. Hear them sing. Please don’t forget to like and share!
- Speaking of, we saw The Connecting Grounds needed a way to update the community as to what their members are doing during this pandemic. We made this for them, and you can watch it here.
- We did a watch part on Netflix: Cuba and the Cameraman. While I long for the days of CTP monthly movie parties, the chat function was a fun way to watch a film together. It made me feel a little closer to my friends in what feels like an era of separation.
- The crew with Carbon Trace is feeling extra hipster, after reading THIS article from the New York Times. While we could have never predicted the pandemic, we did see that drive-in movie theaters were making a comeback. Or maybe. Just maybe… they never went away. Our Patreon insider members will be able to view a draft version of our upcoming short “American Drive-in.”
- We support Springfield’s Crystal Methyd on RuPaul’s Drag Race, the Post Office, and Samantha Irby sending us Judge Mathis rundowns to our inbox each weekday.
